ManageEngine Endpoint Central
Developed by the Indian company Zoho, and previously known as Desktop Central, it’s a core pillar of the ManageEngine suit of products. It’s also sometimes called UEMS – Unified Endpoint Management and Security.
Yep, coming from a corporate\government IT background, I had not heard of this product until 2024 but have been thrown in the deep end with a multi-year engagement for a media client that baulked at the cost of System Centre licensing for a large server fleet.
I aim to spend a lot of time covering this product as there are not many SME’s out there and I have an unusual perspective where I am taking a step back from Microsoft management solutions so have a different view to many current MEEC admins.
Microsoft Intune
Intune has been around for over 10 years, and for 10 years I have had people telling me SCCM is dead, but here we are… I think Intune has finally hit prime time for workstations however what about servers? .
Like SCCM, there is already plenty of great content out there but mainly Windows focused.
Apple macOS management is something I will dig into as most organisations users are licensed for Intune via E3 or E5 so why pay for another platform when Intune now does a good enough job.
Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager
There are tons of great resources out there and many MVP and other content creators that have covered everything to death!
One area I will cover in time is fully automated Server patching. Much of our workstation management has moved to Intune and the cloud but there are still gaps in Microsoft Server patching solution so this information might give you a different perspective and some ideas to take into your environment.
